Buttercream Clothing increases inventory control by 80%
Buttercream Clothing is a Canadian fashion brand. Production planning and control are quite important aspects of fashion manufacturing, and doing it well means on-time delivery, efficient labor management, and appropriate material planning.
We chose Katana because it seemed to be the most user-friendly software we tried. And that has proved to be true - it is very easy to use and the customer service is great!

Company Profile
Buttercream Clothing is an ethical, local, and well-made fashion brand based in Canada. It started 8 years ago in the kitchen of Candice Munro who began making vintage-style aprons. Word started to spread quite quickly and soon requests for different clothing came flooding in. Now Buttercream clothing has grown into a company employing over 25 local women as seamstresses and assistants.
Candice has stayed loyal to her beliefs of ethical and well-made fashion that feels good when purchasing. Every item is made from scratch locally in Calgary, Alberta. Apart from that, Candice empowers other women by offering workshops on how to grow a small business.
Challenges
For Buttercream Clothing, spreadsheets worked well until new orders starter rolling in and the business grew faster than being able to follow production tasks and fabric inventory. Production planning and control are quite important aspects of fashion manufacturing, and doing it well means on-time delivery, efficient labor management, and appropriate material planning. Buttercream Clothing set out to solve the following:
Hearing that our customers used spreadsheets before coming to Katana is no longer a surprise for us. Just as unsurprising is the fact that at some point spreadsheets do not cut it anymore and need to be substituted with something more user-friendly and tailored to the business specifics, and this is where Katana won over Buttercream Clothing.
“We chose Katana because it seemed to be the most user-friendly software we tried. And that has proved to be true – it is very easy to use and the customer service is great!”
