Frequently asked questions
Can I change or cancel my subscription at any time?

If you are on a monthly billing plan, you can upgrade, downgrade, or change the number of users and operators at any time. Once you do, your billing details are recalculated automatically. If you are downgrading, you will be partially credited for your subscription fee and unused Advanced or Professional plan add-ons. Monthly subscriptions can be canceled anytime under the Subscription section in your Katana account settings.

If you are on an annual billing plan, you can add users and operators anytime and be billed on a prorated basis. Removing users from annual billing plans will add credit to your Katana account for your next billing period. If you want to downgrade to a lower plan, you can use your paid annual fee as a prepayment for your next billing period. If you cancel your annual plan subscription, there is no refund. However, your account will remain active until your subscription expires.

If you connected to Katana from the Shopify App Store, your billing is handled by Shopify. To cancel, simply uninstall the Katana app from your Shopify account.

Do I need to enter my credit card details to sign up?

No, we do not require your credit card details when you sign up. Once your free trial ends and you decide to continue using Katana, you will be asked to select a paid plan and enter your billing information.

What is the difference between a full-access user and a shop floor operator account?

Full-access user accounts are for production managers, accountants, and other employees who need unrestricted access to all manufacturing data and features. These users sign in to Katana through our main web app.

Shop floor operator accounts have limited access to the same platform and only use Katana to view and complete assigned tasks associated with manufacturing orders. These users log in via Katana’s Shop Floor App using a 6-digit code.

You can define operators in Katana as:

  • Individual production employees: each employee has a dedicated account and tasks list
  • Workstations: a dedicated account and task list per workstation
What is the difference between a sales order and a sales order line?

A sales order in Katana is an order placed by your customer including all items in that order.

Each individual row listed in a sales order is counted as a sales order line. For example, in the image below, you’ll see a delivered sales order with a total of seven items. However, only the three sales order lines will count towards the shipped sales order limit.

How do I know what sales order line limit I need?

If you already use Katana, you can determine your sales order line volume in a few steps. First, export completed sales orders for your last calendar month in .xlsx format. Next, open the document and check the number of rows in the #SO column.

If you are not using Katana yet, you can estimate your shipped sales order lines count in your current system by summing up all sales item lines in your sales orders.

What happens if my shipped sales order lines exceed the limit in my current plan?
If you exceed the shipped sales order line limit, a member of our team will reach out to you before any changes to your subscription are made. Here’s what happens depending on your selected billing cycle:
  • If you are on a monthly plan, you will be billed accordingly in your next billing cycle.
  • If you are on an annual plan, a Katana representative will guide you through the plan switching process. You also have the option to switch to monthly billing, and the remainder of your paid annual fee will be used as credit to cover higher monthly charges. The other option is to pay a prorated amount to cover the period until the next annual charge.
What happens if I’m on an annual billing subscription and exceed my the shipped sales order limit?

If you exceed the limit of shipped sales order lines included in your plan, our representative will reach out to guide you through the plan switching process. You also have the option to switch to monthly billing, and the remainder of your paid annual fee will be used as credit to cover higher monthly charges. The other option is to pay a prorated amount to cover the period until the next annual charge.

I have short periods of high sales volumes — can I downgrade during the low-volume periods?

Yes, if your shipped sales order lines go below the plan limit, you can manually downgrade your plan once the high-volume sales period is over.

Note that when downgrading from Advanced to Essential, you will also lose access to all features in Advanced plan.

When will I be billed for my Katana subscription?

If you’re on a monthly subscription, you’ll be billed every month on the date you started your subscription.

The shipped sales order line count will be calculated based on the previous calendar month. If you exceed the limit on your plan, billing for the following month will reflect pricing in an upgraded plan, and you will receive a prorata invoice.

If you are on an annual billing subscription, you’ll be billed annually on the subscription start date.

How does the level of customer support differ across Katana’s pricing plans?

Katana offers different levels of customer support depending on your plan:

Our onboarding team can also facilitate an introduction to partners in our extended network for customers who need outside help with integrations or hands-on consultations.
  • Dedicated Customer Success Manager (available on Professional and Enterprise plans)

How do I sign up for a Professional plan?

I am considering upgrading to an Advanced plan but want to try it first. Do I still get a free trial?

If you are on Katana’s Essential plan, you can get a free Advanced plan trial for 14 days. During this period, you will continue paying Essential plan rates. When adding users during your trial, you’ will be charged according to Essential plan rates.

Advanced plan features and operators are free to use during the trial. Once the 14-day trial period is over, you can either downgrade back to Essential or continue on a paid Advanced plan.
